Marion Engstrom begins her new job as a dog handler for a wildlife and environmental study group in Alberta, Canada.  She meets and falls in love with Tate as he mentors her on various wildlife protection studies throughout northern Canada, Idaho and Montana.  Later, Tate dies in a tragic accident..
During the time Marion has known Tate, four women were murdered in Stillwater and the evidence points to Tate.  To discover the truth, Marion seeks the help of Nick Shepard, a retired forensic profiler, who recently moved to Idaho with his wife. Throughout the story, Marion and Nick fact check Tate’s background and places he had traveled only to find inconsistencies and lies.  Based on Marion’s description of Tate’s behavior towards her, Nick profiled him as the prime suspect.
The story begins with first victim’s attack and moves to the present with Marion’s investigation and her time with Tate.  Marion develops as a strong character as she moves from doubting her abilities.
