After catching her daughter with marijuana and learning her son has been smoking, single mother Lily Anderson decides to move her family to her family home in the small town of Comfort, Texas. Although Mack Cooper has been renting the house, Lily decides that the they can all live together. While settling in, Lily discovers an old journal that has entries from her family dating back to the Civil War. Sharing the journal with her daughter helps Lily and her children face some of their issues and rediscover the importance of love, family, and friends.
Labeled as Carolyn Brown’s 100th novel, this was a wholesome and enjoyable read that carried a nice spark of romance. It addressed a number of family issues to make it feel well rounded in the reality that families aren’t perfect. There are some subtle Christian undertones but it isn’t off putting for people who aren’t religious. Overall, this was a nice and relaxing read that will help you appreciate your family.
