The Word is Murder by Anthony Horowitz

The Word Is Murder (Hawthorne, #1)

Title: The Word is Murder
Author: Anthony Horowitz
Published: 2018
Call #: FIC HOROWITZ

The author Anthony Horowitz is called on by Detective Daniel Hawthorne to be a Watson to his Holmes and write the story of the case he is trying to solve.  Diana Cowper is killed 20 years to the day after she accidentally killed a young boy when he ran into the street in front of her car.  She was not wearing her glasses at the time, but because there was no law at the time requiring her to wear corrective lenses when driving, she was not charged with the crime.  Is Diana's murder an act of revenge by one of the boy's parents seeking the justice they never received?  Or is it just a sad coincidence.  If Anthony can keep from killing the deeply aggravating P.I, he just may end up the unwitting hero of the story.

This book is a great follow-up to Horowitz's Magpie Murders and is the first in his new Hawthorne Series. Horowitz creates a very complex plot without it becoming unbelievable.  A definite read for current Horowitz fans and for any mystery fan looking to try a new author.
